My Favourite Things – All About the Eyes

Welcome to my favourite things. I figured I would take you through all of my favourite skin, hair, and lip products. Now onto the eyes.

1. Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette – This is the best eyeshadow palette hmm probably ever. The colours are stunning and unique. The shadows are pigmented, yet buttery and basically blend themselves. If you can get your hands on this palette, get it.
2. Benefit Gimme Brow in 3 – I don’t think I look good with bold brows, but a quick swipe of this really completes a look for me.
3. Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper – This is my holy grail eyeliner. It lasts pretty well on my greasy eyelids and the product itself lasts me forever. The product formula has been changed since my original purchase, but for the better.
4. CoverGirl LashBlast Fusion Mascara in Very Black – I haven’t been able to find a high-end mascara I like better than the LashBlast ones. I love the plastic brush, and it gives volume and length without being spidery or heavy.
5. ColourPop Creme Gel Liner in No Shame – I couldn’t find the exact one, but that colour is pretty close. I love this dark purple liner, it’s not as harsh as black. This formula is creamy and pigmented.
6. Tarte Tease Eyeshadow Palette – This is the perfect lil palette. At first, I felt bad spending $25 on this little thing (and now it’s $30!), but once I started using it the regret melted away. Tarte has really great shadow formulas. This palette is perfect for travelling, or every day. It may be tiny but it packs a punch.

Sephora Haul

I’ve gotten a few things from Sephora since the beginning of the year so I will share with you what I got and whether it worked for me. So here we go!

  1. Hourglass Ambient Light Primer in Mood light – I’m on the hunt for a solid primer that does everything I need – increasing wear time on foundation, oil control, pore filling, helps me win the lottery, the usual. I’d have to win the lottery to justifying buying a full-size of this product, but I enjoyed using the sample.
  2. Tarte Scrub Clean Cleansing Set – I loved the idea of this little set. I’ve been wanting to try some of the Tarte skincare line, but I have a hard time spending money on skincare products when I’m satisfied with more reasonable priced drugstore products. I thought this set was a great deal. It includes
      • cleansing cutie scrubber
      • deluxe deep dive cleansing gel
      • travel frxxxtion stick 3-in-1 exfoliating cleanser

I loved the little scrubber and will continue to use it. I like the cleanser and exfoliation stick but wouldn’t purchase a full-size of either.

  3. Sephora Collection Illuminate Palette – I’ve been wanting a highlighter palette, but didn’t want to splurge on the Anastasia Beverly Hills glow kits. I saw this one on Sephora and loved the idea of it. I didn’t pick it up right away and it went out of stock, so I got a notification sent when it was back and bought it within seconds. I reeeeally like this palette. It has a variety of colours and I don’t find the formula too glittery, and it’s easily buildable.
  4. Benefit Gimme Brow in 3 – I have a travel size of this and love it, and thought I could use a sample size for travelling! I don’t do a lot with my brows, but this really just helps to clean them up and even them out.
  5. Sephora Collection 10 HR Wear Perfection Foundation – This is another sample I chose. I tried it out in 020 light, but there are two other colours in the sample. I loved this foundation and I’d consider buying a full-size of this product.
  6. Smashbox Lid Primer in Light – I have the world’s greasiest eyelids and am constantly looking for something that will keep my eyeshadow in place. I saw this in the 100 point perks and thought I would give it a try. I like it so far but needs some more testing.
  7. Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon in Pastille – If you haven’t heard from me here, here, here, and here – I love Bite Beauty lipsticks, and when I saw this in the 100 point perks I had to pick it up in this gorgeous dusty mauve colour. It’s still great. This colour is amazing. Just get one.
  8. Benefit They’re Real Double the Lipstick in Lusty Rose – I find the whole They’re Real line from Benefit a little gimmicky. I love the mascara, but the eyeliner is hard to work with, the eyeshadows are pretty odd and are pricey at that, and the lipsticks seemed a little odd. I picked this up with a promo code because I love testing out new lipsticks. The ‘draw’ with it is that it is supposed to work as a lipliner and lipstick. It has a tear drop shape to act as the liner. The formula is creamy, but I don’t know if the gimmick is really worth it. The colour is nice, but the floral fragrance is a little overwhelming for me.
  9. Sephora Collection Luster Matte Lipstick in Nude Pink Luster – I tried out this formula in store and was really impressed with it, I got Nude Pink Luster because it was on sale (yay!). I love this! The colour is perfect for spring and the formula is comfortable and creamy.
  10. Sweet Peach Creamy Lip Oil in Pure Peach – I got this as another 100 point perk. I’m not into spending a lot of money on lip glosses, but there’s been so much hype around the peach line and I wanted to try it out. I didn’t like it at first, I thought the colour was too light and the formula was patchy. It’s grown on me since then. The peach scent was nice, but could be overbearing if you have issues with scents. I don’t think I’d purchase a full size, but I’ll enjoy the sample while it lasts.

Eulogising Nick as The Bachelor

nick and vanessa 2

Another season of The Bachelor has come and gone, and Nick has himself a fiance. He chose Vanessa as his one, which wasn’t a shock to me.

I’ve appreciated their chemistry from early on, and she’s exactly what we’ve come to learn as Nick’s type. I liked Vanessa and I think they make a good pair.

I’ve seen a lot of people’s affections for Vanessa fall, while rising for the other finalist Raven. I get this! I totally do! Raven is awesome! Vanessa seemed to not be interested in this whole situation! But here’s the thing, it’s possible that editing gave Vanessa a lot of those moments so it wouldn’t be so obvious that he picks her.

There’s also been ‘drama’ surrounding Vanessa that she has an IMDB page  and the girls might not love her! Do we actually care that Vanessa has an IMDB page? Come on guys, all of these people wanted to be on TV. Whatever.

I don’t know if this is going to all work out for them, but I wish them the best.

Nick and Vanessa

I have enjoyed this season a lot. As much as Nick could come off as disingenuous at times, it also meant that he had a good understanding how TV works and it made for a compelling season.

The best part of this season was the women. God, this was such a great cast of girls. They were interesting, independent, smart and fun. Any of them would have made a good Bachelorette, and I’m looking forward to seeing a slew of them on Bachelor in Paradise.

I’m looking forward to seeing Rachel as The Bachelorette, but I am hoping they found some better guys than who we saw on After the Final Rose.

Catch of my finale thoughts on the latest episode of The Bachelor Rhap Up. Until next season, follow me on Twitter, @hstrong_.

My Favourite Things – Lippies

Welcome to my favourite things. I figured I would take you through all of my favourite skin, hair, and make-up products. Next up – my favourite lip products. I looove lipstick. I have a hard time going into drugstores and not picking up some sort of new lip thang. Here are my favs.

  1. Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Whiskey – I got this lipstick in an Influenster box and I fell in love immediately. BITE does a great effing lipstick. Creamy and pigmented, it is perfect.
  2. Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in LUV – This was my first ever high-end lipstick purchase. I was dying for a purple lipstick, and I knew this one would last all day. This formula is drying, but it doesn’t bother me.
  3. NYX Wonder Pencil in Light – I have no time for lip liners, I use this instead. I can use it with any lipstick I have.
  4. ColourPop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick in Ouija –  I can’t find this exact colour on the website, but it’s a gorgeous pinky-orange. Not everyone loves this formula from Colourpop, but I love a lipstick that I can put on and know it will stay all day. I’ve even worn this for a day at the beach with no budging or smudging. I’d say be aware when purchasing these that the colour on the website isn’t always an exact match to the product you get.
  5. Burt’s Bees Natural Chapstick – I always put on a chapstick before lipstick and this is my favourite one.
  6. Essence Beauty Liquid Lipstick in Peach Party – I saw these on sale at the drugstore one day, and then I liked them so much I went back and bought more. I have 4 all together. They were so cheap but also amazing. Peach Party is my favourite colour that I got.
  7. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Copenhagen – The Soft Matte Lip Creams are my FAVOURITE lip products. Great colour payoff, awesome selection, astounding price. I’ve convinced all of my friends to get one.
  8. Aerin Rose Lip Conditioner – My lips can get a little bit worse for wear after a day of drying lip colours. I got this as a Sephora sample and use it when my lips are feeling extra dry. I wake up in the morning and my lips are soft AF. Too bad it’s pricey and I probably will never buy the full version. Probably.

Survivor: Game Changers – The Cast

Game Changers
The new season of Survivor is coming soon (yes that show is still on), so that means they have released the new cast! This season’s theme is ‘Game Changers’, and is a term used, uhhh loosely, for some of these cast members. These are players who have made a real impact on how the game has evolved and Sierra Thomas. So here is who I’m excited about, meh about, and eye rolling at.

Sandra – Say what you will about her actual game play and strategy, but she is the QUEEN and a pantheon-level character.

Aubry – She is great, and I’m excited to see her get another chance to play. She’s smart, a good player, and gives great sound bites, what more could you want?

Cirie – She’s my all-time fav. I can’t wait to see her play again.

Tony – Love him or hate him, he played one of the most exciting games in the history of Survivor. If he can bring even a fraction of that fun to Game Changers, it should be great.

Jeff – He came out of the gate hard in Second Chances, but third time could be the charm for Jeff. It seems he’s learned from his past mistakes.

Malcolm – Malcolm is my favourite version of ‘cool bro manbun dude’ and I’m looking forward to seeing him again.

Michaela – We were ROBBED that Michaela got voted out so early last season.

Zeke – I`ve seen a lot of people coming in low on Zeke, but it might be a benefit that no one has seen him play.

I mean, okay why not.

Andrea – Don`t get me wrong, I like Andrea quite a bit. I just wasn`t clamouring to see her back.

JT – He’s fine and all, but I would have preferred some other winners over JT.

Ciera – She’s definitely the preferably Ciera/Sierra on this season, but I don’t know if she TRULY understands the game, nor do I think she will be able to build trust.

Hali – She’s one of the one’s we’re asking ‘why are they here’ about, but what I like about Hali is that she is asking that about herself too.

Sarah – Sarah is fine. But I think it says a lot that I had forgotten about her and had already moved onto the next section.

Ugh, really?

Caleb – I didn’t like him on Big Brother. He was only redeemable in Koh Rong because they can’t give a guy a bad edit who nearly died. Right?

Troyzan & Brad – I can say the same thing about both guys. WHY bring back people who the audience clearly didn’t want to see based on the Second Chances voting???????

Debbie – Her pre-season interviews are shady with no reasoning. Also, she sucks.

Ozzy – We’ve seen his schtick.

Sierra – It’s truly difficult to fit her into the ‘Game Changer’ title. The most upsetting part is who we could have seen instead – like Natalie, Sophie, or even Chelsea would have been an improvement.

Instead of following my heart for my winner pick, I’m going to follow my head. I think that Hali is going to win this season because of course she will. She’s the type of person who always wins these returnee seasons.

I am really looking forward to this season. All-star seasons are always fun for me because I can see all of my favs interact. Follow me on Twitter all season long for live-tweets every Wednesday. Or maybe Thursday if I find myself with plans on a Wednesday.

My Favourite Things -Hair and Skincare

Welcome to my favourite things. I figured I would take you through all of my favourite skin, hair, and make-up products. First up, hair and skincare.

  1. Shea Moisture African Black Mud Clarifying Mask – I have a hard time being impressed with face masks, but I keep trying. I’ve heard good things about this one and holy shit it was great. I noticed a great improvement in my skin by the next morning.
  2.  Aveeno Clear Complexion Face Moisturizer – I get super oily, but I don’t want to ignore any dry patches. This moisturiser has been perfect for me. It doesn’t have any oil, and it helps to clear breakouts.
  3. Hask Macadamia Oil Moisturizing Deep Conditioner – These hair masks have done wonders for my hair. Since I lighten it, it tends to get a bit dry. I use this mask about once a week to breathe life into my hair. One package lasts foreverrrrrrr.
  4. Clean & Clear Deep Cleaning Astringent – This is one of my OG products. I’ve been using it since high school and haven’t come into any reason why I should stop. I’ve been tempted by the Micellar water trend, but I can’t stray from my old reliable.
  5. John Frieda Go Blonder Lightening Spray – Hi, my name is Haley and I’m a natural brunette. This spray is what helps me stay blonde. I LOVE IT.
  6. Alba Botanica Face & Body Scrub – I’ve been using this scrub for years now, it’s great. The only problem is I have yet to find it in Canada.
  7.  Sarah’s Soaps in Facial Philter – I forgot to add this one into the picture. I bought this at a handmade market before Christmas and have been using it every day since. I love this soap, it leaves my face squeaky clean – and better yet it’s locally made and all natural.

Your New Bachelorette is…

Rachel Lindsay

rachel pic

I am of two minds about this.

First Mind

I am VERY excited they picked Rachel. It’s nothing to sniff at that she will be the first black lead on this franchise. IN 33 SEASONS. It’s frankly absurd it hasn’t happened yet, but we’re here now. Rachel is a 30-y-o lawyer from Texas. She is smart, beautiful, elegant, well-spoken, great, wonderful, etc etc etc etc etc etc. She’s a fantastic choice for a lead, and I am very much looking forward to seeing her ‘journey’.

Second Mind

Rachel has not yet been sent home from this CURRENT season that she is CURRENTLY on, effectively spoiling the season. I would not put it past anyone here that Rachel is in the final two. Hopefully, this isn’t the case, but you never effing know. I mean, they spoiled the ending of Bachelor in Paradise with announcing Nick as the next Bachelor. They almost always announce the next Bachelorette on the After the Final Rose Special, so why didn’t they just do that? Or even the Women Tell All? Or if they’re really desperate, WHY NOT JUST WAIT UNTIL SHE GOES HOME.

Some reasons could be:

  • They need a different range of people to apply for the show
  • Spoilers were coming out, and they wanted to get ahead of the chatter
  • Or, as it was eloquently stated to me on Twitter

So anyway, I’m excited but like, also annoyed. Which I think is just my resting state. Anyway, check out the podcast and follow me on Twitter for Bachelor mild takes.
