The sun is out, the flowers are growing, and the Blue Jays are back in business. Let’s go through this week’s rundown.
- Opening Day ! – Our baby jays are opening the season in NYC against Tanaka and the Yankees, with Drew Hutchison taking the mound. After a three game series there, and another in Baltimore, they will head back to Toronto where they have their home opener vs yet another AL East opponent, a weakened Tampa Bay Rays. More importantly, I’m heading to the game on the 19th against the Braves for JOSE BAUTISTA BOBBLEHEAD DAY!!!! Don’t you worry, I’ll be hanging outside of the stadium for a few hours beforehand.
- Bienvenue à Montréal – Just like last year, the Blue Jays played a few exhibition games in Montreal at old Olympic stadium, where the Expos used to call home. This year, they played the Cincinnati Reds, team of the Canadian Prince, Joey Votto. This year was extra special because it gave newly signed catcher, Russell Martin, a chance to return to his hometown. He was greeted with a standing ovation, and a beautiful moment when his father played the national anthems on the saxophone. It seems like these exhibition games will be a fantastic annual tradition until baseball finally returns to Montreal.
- Back to School – It was pretty devastating news when we found out that Marcus Stroman would be out for the entire 2015 season with a torn ACL he sustained while participating in some fielding drills a couple weeks ago. He’s putting his off-time to good use – he’s heading back to Duke to finish off his degree. He was drafted in his Junior year by the Blue Jays and never got the chance to finish off his schooling. He said in a number of tweets that his education was always incredibly important to him, and he was ecstatic to have the chance to get his degree. Good on you, Marcus.
I am so happy that winter is finally ending, and regular season baseball is back in our lives! Hopefully next week on the Blue Jays Rundownin, I can talk about how the Jays are on pace for a 182-win season!
